About Us

Why and how we started

Cafe Relax is a social enterprise started by the ladies behind Flavour Gateway Catering who had joined forces over a love of international food and cooking. It was originally based at City Gateway Women's Project in Poplar and another larger branch was opened in June 2010 at Weavers Field in Bethnal Green.

We recruit apprentices from the local area and deliver accredited on-the-job training to NVQ level 2 & 3 in catering and customer service giving apprentices the opportunity and skills they need to gain future employment.

Our Vision: Where we are going

At Café Relax our vision for the future is to provide support and contribute growth to our local community within Tower Hamlets. We want to create opportunities for people to train and develop their skills in customer service and catering – who knows, we may have some future Jamie Oliver’s in the making!

Part of our vision is that we make people more aware of healthier and sustainable eating and, starting with our local residents and highlight the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle.

Our Mission: How we are getting there

Our motto is creating, sharing and celebrating good healthy food. In a nutshell Cafe Relax works on the principle that whatever comes out of our kitchens is made freshly made healthy food.

Café Relax aims to:

• Provide access to healthy, affordable food for local residents
• Educate our customers about healthy and sustainable eating
• Provide catering & customer service training and experience for economically inactive residents in Tower Hamlets
